United complete double signing but want one more before the World Cup

Manchester United have had a busy week so far, completing the signings of Brazilian midfielder Fred and Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot.

Fred signed for United on Tuesday in a £52m deal, with the Red Devils fighting off fierce competition from the likes of Manchester City for his signature. Diogo Dalot is a lesser known name, but the 19-year-old looks to be an exciting prospect who will hopefully learn from veteran Antonio Valencia before slotting into the right-back position when the captain steps down.

With Dalot’s deal said to be worth around £18m, it brings Mourinho’s total spending so far this summer to £70m. But reports claim United want to secure one more signing before the World Cup begins, perhaps in the form of Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

United clearly not only need an experienced centre back but also one with top class abilities, and Alderweireld fits both of those profiles.

The Belgian is said to be valued at up to £40m by Spurs, but Ed Woodward will hope that if the player himself nudges for a move then the fee could be reduced.

Another player Mourinho is desperate to land is Chelsea winger Willian, whom Mourinho signed for the Blues. Willian is known to want out of Stamford Bridge if Antonio Conte stays, and has flirted with the prospect of working with Mourinho again. The Brazilian also congratulated fellow international Fred on his move to Old Trafford, calling United a ‘great club’.
