United ‘Closing In’ On £9m Deal For Serie A Frontman With £4.4m A Year Contract Set To Be Agreed

Manchester United are “closing in” on the signing of Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic, according to Goal.com. The website reports that the Red Devils believe a £9m bid will secure the Croatian veteran’s services.

Considering the club’s focus on bringing in young players, it is a surprise that they are looking to sign a striker who will turn 34 in May, but the need for goals has forced United’s hand.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have scored just nine times in eight league games, with four of those coming on the opening day against Chelsea. With Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford having had fitness issues this season, another forward was seen as vital.

Mandzukic is reportedly set to agree a £4.4m a year deal, with the contract set to run until the end of the 2020/21 campaign. The Croatian international is open to the move after failing to make an appearance so far this season for Juve.
