United Close On Pedro

United Close On Pedro

It’s no secret that the arrival of Luis Suarez has further pushed Pedro down the pecking order for Barcelona. The Spaniard, who turned 28 today, has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp this season, and has now hinted he will seek a move away to secure more first team football.

Pedro is a product of the world famous Barcelona academy and has made almost 50 appearances for Spain.
Many reports across both Spain and the UK claim Pedro could be available for transfer this summer, as long as the buying team meet his £22m release clause.

Although Pedro’s time at Barcelona may be up, there is still no reason to doubt the Spaniard’s ability, even with his lack of appearances for the Catalan side, he still managed 11 goals last season. It would be no lie if someone was to say that his record is a far-cry from the once 20+ goals-a-season winger we all saw in 2010/11, unfortunately it would be absolutely correct. However, there’s no doubt that Pedro can still perform at any level.

Manchester United have plenty of talent across the wings, but lack no real goal-scoring winger (without including Depay who is yet to make his PL debut). Angel di Maria’s imminent departure is another big influence on United’s interest in Pedro, who looks almost certain to join PSG after failing to join the club’s pre-season tour.

One thing is for sure, Pedro, a World Cup and Champions League winner, is someone who has the calibre of a world class player who could walk into almost any top European side. £22 million would be a great deal for such a player, and one United fans would clearly vouch for. If United do wrap up the Barca winger, let’s hope his success’ is similar to that of Alexis Sanchez’s at Arsenal.
