United Board Can’t Decide Between Two Candidates For Technical Director Role

Manchester United are in “advanced” talks with former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Antero Henrique about joining the club as their new technical director but there a number of senior figures who want RB Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick instead, according to the Independent.

Henrique has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past few weeks. He departed PSG last summer after two years with the Ligue One side. He had previously spent ten years as Porto’s Director of Football, helping them win seven league titles in eight seasons between 2006 and 2013

Rangnick’s career has had a very different trajectory. His management style was inspired by the attacking brand of football extolled by Arrigo Sacchi, and along with the likes of Wolfgang Frank pioneered a style of play focused on counter-pressing which heavily influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Joachim Low.

He moved into a sporting director role with Red Bull in 2012, managing both Salzburg and Leipzig’s recruitment strategies. The German has also had two spells in charge of Leipzig, the last of which was last season when he guided the Bundesliga club to a third-place finish.
