United Beat Chelsea In Race To Sign Liverpool Starlet After He Rejected Chance To Stay At Anfield

Manchester United have won the battle to sign Liverpool midfielder Ethan Ennis. The 16-year-old took to Instagram to confirm the news last night:

The teenager had turned down a contract extension to stay on Merseyside, and it led to a scramble for the player’s signature with Chelsea also said to be interested in signing him.

Ennis had one notable performance last season, scoring a hat-trick in the third round of the FA Youth Cup against Sutton United but he didn’t appear in subsequent matches as Liverpool went on to reach the final.

The midfielder, who can also play as a centre forward, will likely go straight into Neil Ryan’s Under 18 setup at Carrington, alongside some other very promising young players such as Joe Hugill, Marc Jurado and Willy Kambwala.

Undoubtedly Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s willingness to play youngsters in the first team would have influenced Ennis’s decision to join United above Chelsea and it will be interesting to see how he develops.
