United Axe 5 Players

United Axe 5 Players

Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that they have released five players. The news comes after the club’s retained list was submitted to the FA Premier League.

Tom Cleverley’s departure has been obvious for months, but it’s now official. Now no longer a United player, Cleverley will almost certainly move to Everton.

Ben Amos has also left. The goalkeeper never really broke into the first team picture, making only 7 appearances for United. Now 25, Amos still has his best years ahead of him. A move to Bolton Wanderers, a club he has spent time on loan at, could be on the cards.

Tom Thorpe is perhaps the most surprising in the list. The under-21 captain played a huge part in United securing the League, and is clearly a big influence at the back. With Blackett and McNair promoted to the first team this season, it really is a mystery why Thorpe was not.

Callum Evans and Ryan McConnell, also defenders for the under-21 squad, are others who have been released and will look for new clubs in the summer.

As for the rest of the out of contract players at United, they have all been offered new deals. Youngsters such as Joe Rothwell and Saidy Janko have the option to stay on at United. News conformation on whether they have accepted will be broadcast on ManUNews as it happens.

One surprising bit of information to come out of the clubs retained list is that the name Angelo Henriquez is mentioned. There were big reports that he had signed for Dinamo Zagreb, the club he had spent all season on loan at. However, it now seems the prolific Chilean is still a United player, much to the delight of all that have watched the 21- year-old.

For those released by Manchester United today, we wish you all the best in your future pastures.
