United Avoid Big Guns But Get Tricky Away Draw In FA Cup 6th Round

Manchester United beat a good Derby County side 3-1 on Friday night in the FA Cup 5th round as Wayne Rooney scored with a wicked long-range curler in the 1st half and Daley Blind and Juan Mata sealed the deal with goals in the 2nd half. United will have been very interested spectators as the FA Cup 6th round draw was completed following the last matches of the 5th round on Sunday.

For the FA Cup 6th round United will travel to face League One’s 20th placed club in Shrewsbury Town FC after the Shrews beat Championship high-flyers Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 yesterday. United managed to avoid all the other big guns in the tournament for another round like holders Arsenal who drew Hull City and Chelsea who will face Man City but they won’t likely avoid such clubs if they do get by Shrewsbury as there will be 11 Premier League teams in the 6th round if West Brom can get past Peterborough in their 5th round replay.

So it seems Louis van Gaal is not the only one taking the FA Cup seriously this season as a number of other Premier League managers seem to be giving the competition the attention it deserves too. United can only hope that their FA Cup form transfers to the Premier league as they face the always tough Stoke City at home on Tuesday night as their focus returns to the League and their pursuit of the Champions League qualification places resumes.
