Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, according to reports in the English media.

The Red Devils made an enquiry about the teenager during the summer transfer window and they have continued to monitor his progress at the start of this season.

However, other Premier League teams have also begun keeping tabs on Gusto, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea, which could complicate United’s chances of securing his signature.

Manager Erik ten Hag is thought to be keen on strengthening his options on the right-hand side of defence, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka not believed to be in his plans.

Diogo Dalot has started the season well but the Portuguese international does need some competition for his place in the starting lineup.

Gusto turned 19 back in May, and he has only made 48 senior appearances for Lyon since making his first-team debut in January 2021, but he is clearly a highly-rated young defender.
