United And Liverpool Face Off Against Other PL Clubs Over Breakaway Super League Plans

Manchester United and Liverpool faced a grilling from other Premier League clubs about plans for a European Super League, according to the Sun.

A virtual meeting, comprising of the 20 teams, was expected to be held yesterday and it is said that discussions over a possible breakaway league would dominate proceedings.

Documents have surfaced in recent months that indicate that United’s owners, the Glazer family, and Fenway Sports Group, who run Liverpool, are both in favour of a new European competition.

It is believed that talks have taken place with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Fifa president Gianni Infantino about moving forward with the idea.

However, English clubs from outside the traditional top six are thought to be angered by the plans as they fear they could be locked out of the competition.

There is a feeling that United, in particular, maybe trying to hedge their bets with CEO Ed Woodward also involved with UEFA’s committee to reform the Champions League.
