United And Chelsea ‘Strongly’ Interested In French Midfield Maestro After Price Tag Is Slashed By 17M

Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to AS.

The Madrid based newspaper reports that the two English clubs are following the 18-year-old’s situation “strongly” ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Camavinga’s current deal at Rennes expires in 2022 and it means his price tag will drop the closer he gets to the end of his contract. In December, it was reported that the Frenchman could be sold for €50m (£43m) but that has now gone down to as little as €30m (£26m).

The £17m reduction in price is likely to attract other names as well. AS report Real Madrid are also keen, with it being claimed that the Spanish club began contacts “months ago,” which could hand them an advantage in negotiations.

United’s continued interest may be dependent on Paul Pogba’s future. Camavinga is seen as the ideal replacement but if the midfielder signs a new deal and remains at Old Trafford, the club’s interest in the Rennes star will diminish.
