Manchester United and Chelsea are both willing to double Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane‘s current salary as they attempt to lure him away from the Bernabeu, according to reports in Spain.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his contract with the La Liga club and the prospect of a sizeable wage rise may well tempt the centre-back to make the switch to the Premier League.

Varane is reportedly earning €6m a season with Real, but United and Chelsea are said to be prepared to offer him €12m a year (around £200,000 a week) if he were to leave his current team.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have prioritised Varane over other centre-half targets, as he looks to sign a reliable partner for captain Harry Maguire.

Despite his contract situation, though, the France international won’t be sold on the cheap with it being suggested that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants around €70m (£60m) for the player.
