Manchester United and Arsenal have fallen behind Tottenham in the battle to snap up AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, according to reports in the English media.
The Ivorian international is out of contract at the end of the season, and will be able to speak to foreign clubs about a free transfer next summer in a matter of days.
Spurs have reportedly stolen a march on United and the Gunners as they have held extensive talks with Kessie’s representatives already ahead of formal discussions.
The 25-year-old could have been an ideal player for the Red Devils. The Manchester club are keen to strengthen their midfield options and Kessie’s availability on a free presented a great opportunity to reinforce a perceived weakness in the squad.
With that being said, though, it could simply be the case that United have another target in mind. Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara is also closing in on the final six months of his contract so he may be seen as the priority.
