Manchester United are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, according to reports in the English media.
Labelled as the “New Ballack” by some sections of the press, the 21-year-old has been in excellent form this season, having scored five goals and provided seven assists in 25 appearances.
It is believed that Baumgartner is valued at just £16m by Hoffenheim at the moment but that asking price is likely to increase substantially if he continues to perform at his current level.
The Austrian international is an attacking midfielder by trade, but he has also been employed as a centre-forward and on the left-wing this season, demonstrating his adaptability.
Whether United actually need another player like Baumgartner in their squad, though, it is up for debate. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek who can perform similar roles.
