United Agree World Record £80m Fee To Sign Defender With Medical Scheduled This Weekend

Manchester United have agreed an £80m fee with Leicester City for Harry Maguire, according to the BBC.

The website reveals that a medical will take place this weekend before the 26-year-old’s move is finalised.

The £80m transfer will break the world record for a defender, with the previous record being held by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk who moved to Anfield for £75m in January 2018.

United appear to have beaten city rivals Manchester City to Maguire’s signature, who were also interested in signing the England international.

If the centre-back does seal a move to Old Trafford, it would take the Red Devils’ spending for the summer up to £148m. They have already secured the signing of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50m, while they signed Daniel James from Swansea City for £18m back in June.

Maguire will strengthen an area of the pitch which was badly in need of reinforcing, and United fans will be hoping the defender can add extra solidity to the backline.
