United Ace The Hero In Copa America Penalty Shootout

Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez scored the winning penalty in the shootout as Chile progressed to the semi-finals of the Copa America.

It was an ill-tempered match against Colombia but Chile had the better of the game with two goals ruled out by VAR. The match ended 0-0 after normal time and with no goals coming in extra time either, the quarter-final went to penalties.

Colombia’s William Tesillo shot wide in the shootout, leaving Sanchez with the opportunity to put Chile through. The 30-year-old fired the ball past goalkeeper David Ospina to win in dramatic fashion, 5-4 on penalties.

Chile will face either Uruguay or Peru in the semi-finals of the tournament. If they progress, Brazil or Argentina will await them in the final.

Sanchez has been in very good form for his country this summer, having scored two goals and provided one assist in four matches so far during the competition.

Reports back in May had suggested that Juventus or Inter Milan were keen on signing the Chilean this summer, but whether his latest performances at international level will have affected his future under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it remains to be seen.

If he keeps putting in these type of displays, he could well end up in a number of people’s fantasy teams for next season. Fans can use some daily fantasy sports promo codes if they want to get the best offers ahead of the new campaign.

Whether Sanchez can keep up this form, it is difficult to predict at this point. Chile’s manager Reinaldo Rueda believes that the winger’s close connections with his teammates have helped him rediscover himself:

“The relationships, the knowledge, the little groups that exist in this team, with Arturo [Vidal], with Mauricio [Isla], and with all of them that have been together a long time… there are good memories [for Sanchez],”

United fans would have hoped that he could build similar relationships with teammates at United, but things haven’t gone to plan since his move from Arsenal 18 months ago.
