Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie have been named as possible options to become assistant manager, if Erik ten Hag is appointed as Manchester United’s next head coach, according to reports in England.

Ferdinand is believed to have put his own name forward, but his lack of coaching experience means that he is unlikely to be handed the role.

Van Persie, on the other hand, is a different story. The Dutchman spent three years at United after moving from Arsenal, and since retiring, he has been Feyenoord’s assistant head coach under Dick Advocaat and Arne Slot.

Of course, a lot still depends on whether ten Hag will be offered the job. Multiple sources have now confirmed that the 52-year-old was interviewed by the Red Devils earlier this week.

The Ajax manager did reportedly impress United officials but the club are still expected to talk to other potential candidates before making a final decision.
