Twitter reacts: Lindelof’s brilliant World Cup displays

We all know that Victor Lindelof’s debut season at Manchester United didn’t quite go to plan.

Having joined from Benfica for £32m last summer, the centre-back endured a rocky start to his Old Trafford career, making only 13 starts.

The Swede’s performances did manage to pick up towards the end of the season though, enough to cement his place in Sweden’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament.


It’s safe to say that the 23-year-old has been one of the more solid performers for his country, helping them to clean sheets in their last five World Cup qualifying matches.

And his performances haven’t disappointed since, with Lindelof demonstrating a strong performance against world champions Germany, who won in dramatic fashion at the death.

But it was against Mexico in Sweden’s last game of the group stages where he really stood out, a clean sheet was accompanied by an extremely solid performance – not to mention a level headed approach by pulling team-mate Sebastian Larsson, who had already been shown a yellow, out of the face of an opponent.

So with United strongly linked with a new centre-back this summer, is it entirely necessary? Or do we have the man within our ranks already?
