Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has agreed a new five-year contract at Old Trafford, the club have confirmed.
The 23-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer, and the England international will now be staying at the club for the long-term.
Shaw’s salary will reportedly rise to £150,000 a week after the green light was given by manager Jose Mourinho. The fullback has seen his United career dramatically turnaround under the Portuguese boss over the past six months.
Fans on Twitter believe that the former Southampton defender deserves his contract extension following his performances this season:
Jose has played a big part in this, out of shape and criticised under LVG and Jose, seems he has turned a corner with a helping hand

Several people in the club should look to Shaw for an example to follow. Looked himself in the mirror, realized his flaws and got to work.

As long as he doesn't regress now

I know it's not saying much, but he's been the stand-out player this season

And he deserves it

Others believe there are better fullbacks on the market than Shaw:
£195,000 a week for a left back that’s had 5 good games in 3 years. How long until he drops out of favour, gets injured then runs out the next 5 years of his contract at £10m a year.

Waste of money

Luke Shaw has had an incredible start to the season, maybe been our most consistent player. However, to give him such a huge bumper deal after 10 good games? Seriously?! #mufc

Since clear the air talks with Mourinho over the summer, Shaw has been ever-present in United’s first team. He has missed just one Premier League game, sitting out the win over Watford last month due to a concussion he picked up on international duty.
