The Blues made some high-profile additions from Italian clubs in the 1990s, including Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Vialli.
Desailly’s move from AC Milan was just as important signing for the Blues, becoming the mainstay of their defence between 1998 and 2004.
9) Alain Goma (PSG to Newcastle) – £4.7m
This player has probably slipped through the memory of most fans, having moved to Tyneside from Paris in the summer of 1999.
Goma did become an important player for the Magpies but he left St James’ Park for Fulham after just two years following a fallout with Sir Bobby Robson.
