With the Glazers having effectively put Manchester United up for sale, we have decided to collate some of the stories that have made credible claims about potential buyers for the club.
The three possible bidders mentioned below are all likely to be in the running to take up ownership of the Red Devils.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe
The Daily Telegraph has confirmed that the owner of Ligue One side Nice will seriously consider making a bid for the Manchester club.
Ratcliffe failed in a £4bn takeover of Chelsea earlier this year, with his offer losing out to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, but he should have the funds to meet the Glazer’s asking price.
Amancio Ortega
The Manchester Evening News claim that the founder of the Spanish retail chain Zara is interested in buying the Red Devils.
Ortega is currently the 19th richest man in the world, having a personal fortune of around £50bn, so he would have no issues with funding, but he has no experience of owning any sports team.
Dubai Sovereign Wealth Fund
Arabian Business has revealed that officials from Dubai are likely to consider making an offer for Manchester United, using their Sovereign Wealth Fund.
Considering the fund has assets amounting to £250bn, there is no doubting their financial power, but there would, of course, be ethical implications to any such takeover.
