Thomas Muller Deal ‘Remains Possible’

Thomas Muller Deal ‘Remains Possible’

Manchester United’s summer of 2014 will be documented as a relatively successful transfer window. The likes of Luke Shaw, Angel di Maria and Daley Blind ensured United’s gross spend was around the £150m mark. Whilst there’s no guarantee Van Gaal is willing to emulate the expenditure made last season, the club have already spent £80m on 4 European stars that look set to light up the Premier League next season and look certain to add more talent.

The latest transfer rumour doing the rounds is that of Thomas Muller, the Bayern Munich star who is rated as one of the best in the world. The German, who can play almost anywhere in both the midfield and attacking line, is under contract with Bayern until 2019 and will be a very expensive and difficult transfer to wrap up, if the reports are anything to go by.

Muller has won just about everything there is to win in football and looks set to become one of the World Cup’s greatest ever stars due to the fact at just 25 he has already recorded 10 goals in two tournaments, not to mention a winners medal in 2014. As far as his club career is concerned, there really aren’t many around that have had more success than the 25-year-old. Over 70 goals and bags of silverware, it’s easy to see why United’s quoted fee is so extortionate.

Earlier in the week, various media outlets reported that United were ready to stump up €100m (£70m) for Muller’s services. German publication Bild claimed that Muller is honoured by the £70m bid, and would potentially fancy a move to England.

Yet more reason to believe the transfer rumour came when Muller’s team-mate and German legend Philipp Lahm admitted his fellow countryman could follow Bastian Schweinsteiger from the Allianz to Old Trafford.

“It’s not my decision,” Lahm told reporters in Shanghai.

“Things can happen very quickly in football.”

“I certainly can’t provide any guarantee for Thomas Muller (staying).”

Manchester United do have one trick up their sleeve in their quest to sign Muller. Angel Di Maria is seen as the perfect replacement for Ribery, a player who is seemingly coming to the end of his glittering career. Bayern are known admirers of the Argentine, perhaps a swap deal could be put in place.
