Thomas Frank Tells United And Chelsea To Pay “At Least 40M” After Transfer Target Turns Down New Contract

Brentford manager Thomas Frank says the Bees will only sell goalkeeper David Raya for £40m at the end of the season.

The Spaniard will have just a year left on his contract in the summer but Frank has confirmed that the shot-stopper has rejected an extension and there is a growing possibility that the player will be offloaded:

“I think if he turns [the contract] down twice then unfortunately that’s a signal. We made two really good offers but that’s fine, it’s a free world. We can’t force anyone… I hope he will stay forever but it looks like it could be difficult with the contract situation.”

“He must be at least £40 million plus. If he had three years [on his contract], it would be £70 million. How much was Kepa [Arrizabalaga]? He is at least as good as him.”

Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with Raya in recent weeks, but it was reported that Brentford may only hold out for a fee in the region of £15m to £20m.

Frank may well be playing hardball by claiming that they will demand around double that figure, but it seems clear that the keeper is intent on leaving the Gtech Community Stadium.

After Frank made his comments about Raya, the player issued a statement saying he is “happy at Brentford” but he will make his decision on his future in the summer.
