Manchester United may consider signing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford if the club chooses not to trigger their option to extend David De Gea’s contract for another year, according to the Daily Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath.
The reliable journalist claims it is “by no means a given” that De Gea will stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season, which could lead to the Red Devils weighing up moves for the likes of Pickford:
#MUFC weigh up David De Gea 1yr option, by no means a given it gets triggered. Should there be a change it brings others like Jordan Pickford into frame https://t.co/kiFKKvXDpM

Supporters on Twitter are not best pleased that United are being linked with Pickford. Many would actually like to see De Gea stay if the only other option is England’s number one:

Pickford is nowhere near good enough! #GlazersOut

I like Jordan Pickford, but it's really senseless to sign him for United. Diogo Costa & Mike Maignan are the only 2 keepers United should be focused on.

Some fans are being slightly harsh on Pickford. Manager Erik ten Hag is keen to have a keeper who is good with his feet, and the Everton shot-stopper would certainly fit the bill in that regard.
However, there are plenty of other options that United could turn to, so we shall see have to wait and see how this situation unfolds.
