‘This Is What He’s About’ Ian Wright Praises Much Criticised United Star After Playing Key Role In Brighton Win

BBC pundit Ian Wright has praised Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek for his role in the buildup to Mason Greenwood’s winner against Brighton last night.

The Dutchman made a decoy run allowing Bruno Fernandes the time and space to deliver the ball into the box, and Wright said the movement from the £35m summer signing was excellent:

“This is brilliant from Donny van de Beek [in the build-up to United’s winner] and this is what he’s about. He’s come from a possession-based academy, that’s what he does. He makes movement. It’s great movement and leaves the space open to Bruno Fernandes.”

Despite van de Beek’s important contribution, his appearances in the Premier League have been few and far between recently, mainly due to a muscular injury that has kept him sidelined for the best part of two months. His ten-minute cameo yesterday was the first time he has played in the league since the 1-1 draw against West Brom back in February.

Now he is back fit and available, he will be determined to make more of an impact as the Red Devils look to secure the runners-up spot in the Premier League and lift the Europa League trophy.
