The Top 5 Goalscorers For Manchester United In The Premier League Era

Manchester United have had so many great goalscorers in the Premier League era that it is no surprise that a number of big names have missed this top five list.

The likes of Mark Hughes, Eric Cantona, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself didn’t make the cut.

Others such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Robin van Persie and Dimitar Berbatov weren’t at the club long enough in order to make the list either.

So press the “next page” as we count down the top five scorers for United in Premier League history:

5) Andrew Cole (93)

The £7m signing from Newcastle in 1995 spent six years at Old Trafford, scoring on average one goal in every two games for the Red Devils in the Premier League,

It could be argued that Cole should have scored even more goals. He struggled to hit the heights in his first two campaigns for the club before scoring 20+ goals in all competitions in his subsequent four seasons at United.

4) Ruud van Nistelrooy (95)

The Dutchman was a consummate finisher and an archetypal goal poacher. He didn’t possess a great deal of pace but he was always in the right place at the right time.

Van Nistelrooy’s falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson in 2006, however, hastened the forward’s departure to Real Madrid.

3) Paul Scholes (107)

A United icon, the midfielder made a reputation for himself by arriving late in the box to score goals, but he was a lot more than that.

Scholes was a superb passer of the ball and could dictate play from the middle of the pitch. During his time at Old Trafford, he collected an astonishing 11 Premier League titles, 2 Champions League medals, four FA Cups and three League Cups.

2) Ryan Giggs (109)

Like Scholes, the Welsh legend meant much more to the club than just goals, but his longevity meant he did break a century of league goals during his illustrious career with United.

Giggs made a remarkable 632 appearances in the Premier League alone, picking up 13 league trophies in the process.

1) Wayne Rooney (183)

By far and away the most prolific scorer for the Red Devils in the Premier League era, the Liverpool born forward spent 13 incredible years at Old Trafford.

He will be remembered for some spectacular finishes, such as the overhead kick against City, but his all-round game cannot be underestimated either, having provided a hugely impressive 109 assists during his career at United.
