The Five Young Stars Who Could Have A Breakthrough Year In The Premier League This Season

With the new Premier League season just around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the young prospects who look poised to make their first team breakthrough.

It’s certainly no mean feat breaking into the first team at an English top-flight club, especially as managers are wary of taking chances on young players when their jobs are on the line.

However, there are those who possess so much potential that they fully merit game time at the highest level, and in today’s list, we will be looking at a number of examples.

Press the next page as we profile five youngsters who could make an impact in the Premier League this campaign.

Archie Gray – Leeds

The 16-year-old has not made his competitive debut at senior level yet but Whites boss Jesse Marsch could not contain his excitement about the midfielder’s ability after impressing during pre-season:

“I can’t help but get excited when I talk about him because you can see it’s not just his talent, it’s his personality and he shows that when he plays. He’s ready for some big challenges so let’s see how it goes.”

Cole Palmer – Manchester City

The 20-year-old is one of the main reasons why City have decided against replacing Raheem Sterling this summer. He had already made an impression with some of his cameos last season, although he was sidelined for a fair few months with injury.

If Palmer can maintain his fitness, he is expected to be Riyad Mahrez’s understudy on the right-hand side of the attack. Whether he will have a Phil Foden-like impact, though, we shall have to wait and see.

Cameron Archer – Aston Villa

After impressing during a loan spell at Preston North End last campaign, there has been a lot of demand for the young striker’s services, but it appears that Villa boss Steven Gerrard wants to keep him around.

Archer scored twice on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and many believe that the 20-year-old is ready to make the step up when it comes to playing competitive games in the Premier League.

Zidane Iqbal – Manchester United

Manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly made the key decision to keep the teenager at the club, rather than loaning him to get more game time, which suggests the midfielder does figure in his first team plans.

Both Iqbal and Charlie Savage impressed in pre-season, and many supporters are intrigued to find out whether ten Hag sees them featuring in league games, or merely in domestic cup competitions. Either way, it looks as if they will get chances to show what they can do.

Fabio Carvalho – Liverpool

Liverpool fans are very excited about the 19-year-old’s potential, following his £8m switch from Fulham in the summer. The attacking midfielder played an important role in getting Fulham promoted to the Premier League so he is a player who many feel is ready for top-flight football.

Jurgen Klopp doesn’t generally play with a no.10 role, so it may be the case that Carvalho will be asked to play on the wing or in central midfield if and when he is handed opportunities.
