The FIVE Routes That Marcus Rashford Could Take As Doubts Increase Over His Future At United

Marcus Rashford is undoubtedly at a crossroads in his career at Manchester United. After a poor run of form, clashes with his own supporters, and being omitted from the England squad, the forward has plenty to think about.

Reports emerged last week that the 24-year-old is considering his future at Old Trafford and there has been a lot of debate about his current predicament.

Rashford has reportedly left the UK to clear his head, with United having the best past of three weeks before their next game. The player himself will, no doubt, be pondering his next move.

Press the next page we look at the five options Rashford could be considering as he faces a critical decision in his career.

1) Signing A New Contract

Rashford may come back from his break determined to improve his form and, if he does finish the season strongly, he could get the fans back on side.

That positivity could then feed into contract talks and, if Rashford gets good feedback from the club’s prospective new head coach, he may feel that signing a contract extension is the right move.

2) Moving Abroad

After coming through United’s academy and spending his whole life in Manchester, the 24-year-old may simply need a change of scenery.

English players don’t tend to favour moves to other countries but the likes of Tammy Abraham and others have made a success of things when they have moved abroad. Rashford could, therefore, be considering a similar path. Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

3) Joining A Rival

Arsenal, West Ham and even Liverpool have been mentioned as potential destinations since it emerged that Rashford is thinking about his future at Old Trafford.

You can probably rule out Liverpool as United would never sanction a direct move to Anfield, but they could be more inclined to him moving to one of the two London clubs. Danny Welbeck’s name springs to mind as a player who left under similar circumstances but the Red Devils may still be reluctant to strengthen a rival.

4) Spearheading The Magpies’ Revival

Newcastle are linked with pretty much every player these days because of their newfound wealth, so would a move to St James’ Park be realistic for Rashford?

The Magpies would certainly have the resources to sign the England international, and money does talk, but the player could see it as a step down.

5) Leaving On A Free Transfer

This is the least likely option, mainly because United could trigger a clause to extend his current contract until 2024, but there is a possibility that the forward will look to sit on his hands and wait it out.

Jesse Lingard has pretty much done a similar thing, but that was more down to a lack of game time. With Rashford, there are other factors at play, and he won’t want to waste the best part of two years either out on loan or playing a bit-part role at United if his form doesn’t improve.
