The Five Portuguese Stars Who Have Scored The Most Goals In The Premier League

After going through the five highest goalscorers of the Premier League era from Norway last time, we now switch our attention to Portugal.

United, in particular, have snapped up players from the country on a regular basis over the last 30 years, and that influence continues to this day.

This list will, therefore, feature the Red Devils prominently, and while it will be no surprise who comes out on top, there are also one or two other notable surprises in the top five.

Press the next page as we name the most prolific scorers from Portugal in Premier League history.

5) Diogo Jota (Wolves and Liverpool) – 24 Goals

It does show you how few goalscorers from Portugal have played in England that Jota already makes the top five, despite the fact he has barely had three seasons in the English top flight.

The Liverpool striker could have had even more goals if he hadn’t spent nearly three months out injured earlier this campaign.

4) Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) – 24 Goals

Again, like with Jota, the United midfielder’s presence on this list will raise an eyebrow or two, considering he has only been in the country for 15 months.

However, Fernandes’s superb finishing ability means it won’t be long before he moves even further up this list. It could even happen before the end of this season.

3) Nani (Manchester United) – 26 Goals

If you look at the Portuguese winger’s numbers during his eight years at Old Trafford, you start to think he may have been slightly underappreciated.

26 goals and 46 assists in 147 league games is certainly not a bad return whatsoever, while in all competitions, Nani actually averaged a goal involvement (a goal or an assist) every two matches.

2) Luis Boa Morte (Arsenal, Southampton, Fulham and West Ham) – 29 Goals

The forward spent the best part of twelve years in English football but, while he made nearly 300 appearances in the top flight, he wasn’t particularly prolific.

Despite Boa Morte not even reaching 30 league goals in his career during his time in England, though, he still manages to take second place on this list.

1) Cristian Ronaldo (Manchester United) – 84 Goals

It won’t be a surprise to anyone that the United legend comes out on top, although it must be said that he didn’t start out as the goal machine he later turned into.

Ronaldo did not get into double figures for league goals during his first three seasons at Old Trafford, but he became very prolific between 2006 and 2009 before departing for Real Madrid.
