4) John Carew (Aston Villa and Stoke) – 38 Goals
The target man had been a key member of Rafa Benitez’s Valencia side before having spells with Besiktas and Lyon. He arrived at Villa Park in January 2007 and had three and half years as a first-team regular.
However, the arrival of Gerard Houllier as manager in 2010 limited Carew’s game time. He joined Stoke on loan midway through the 2010/11 season only to leave when his contract expired at the end of the campaign.
