Manchester United are holding back from making a formal bid for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, according to reports in the English media.
The Red Devils have been weighing up whether to go ahead with a move for the England international during the January transfer window but the defender’s ten-week ban for betting infringements has complicated matters.
United are keen on adding competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the second half of the season but, with Trippier only becoming available again on March 1st, it means he would miss a whole host of fixtures. Most supporters on Twitter are happy that the club won’t be stepping up their interest in the player:
Thank god

Would prefer lamptey , can defend and attack, today shows we need a rb for cover for awb, or competition even, we either give axel a chance at cb or we loan him out again

why are we acting like Trippier is the only RB in the world. such short term planning

Thank God he is not a footballer.
We have better players and young than Trippier— Noty Rowsha (@NotyRowsha) December 26, 2020
Probably best we stay away from him

Saved by the bet. Terrible potential signing. Better of recruiting a young unknown like they have been doing recently.

At 30 years of age, Trippier is hardly one for the future, so it was a surprise when news of United’s interest in the fullback first emerged. Whether they will move on to another target, we shall have to wait and see.
