Ten Hag Keen To Sign A THIRD Ajax Player But United May Face Fight With Chelsea To Get Him

Manchester United have joined Chelsea in pursuing Ajax holding midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Mexican international was the subject of a bid from the Blues just before the transfer window closed last month, but it appears that the Red Devils may get involved in the battle for the player’s signature in the New Year.

Manager Erik ten Hag has already signed two players from his former club, Lisandro Martinez and Antony, but it seems Alvarez is also very much on his radar.

The 25-year-old joined Ajax in 2019 as a centre-back but he was converted by ten Hag into a midfielder, where he has thrived over the past couple of seasons.

Ajax reportedly turned down €50m (£43m) from Chelsea in the summer so, if United want to snap up Alvarez, they will likely have to pay more than that figure. It has been claimed that the Red Devils will have limited funds available in January so it remains to be seen whether this transfer rumour is accurate.
