Telles And Greenwood To Start: Manchester United’s Predicted Starting XI To Face West Brom

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to see his team build on the win against Everton with a convincing home performance versus West Brom this weekend.

The international break probably didn’t come at the right time for the Norwegian with the boost from the victory against the Toffees now having faded with the players having travelled across the world to play for their countries.

It will be hoped that no player will be ruled out with positive tests for the virus on their return but it is still means picking a starting eleven for the match is tricky considering you don’t know who will be available.

Press the next page as we predict who could start at Old Trafford on Saturday.

GK – David De Gea

Having lost his place to Athletic Bilbao keeper Unai Simon in the national team setup, De Gea will be fresh and ready to go for United’s game this weekend.

Hopefully, he’ll want to prove Spain boss Jose Enrique wrong and put in some top drawer displays between now and the European Championships next summer.

RB – Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The 22-year-old was not called up by England so, like De Gea, he has not played since the 3-1 win over Everton two weeks ago.

Wan-Bissaka did not have his best game at Goodison Park, having failed to close down Bernard for his goal, and he will need to show some better form on Saturday.

CB – Victor Lindelof

There are still worries about the Swedish international’s ongoing back problem but, with Eric Bailly still out, he will likely line up alongside Harry Maguire in the heart of United’s defence once more.

Lindelof will be facing a Baggies attack that has scored just six goals in eight games this season so a clean sheet could be on the cards if he performs well.

CB – Harry Maguire

The captain is looking more like his old self, having looked in decent form during the international break and building on his good display against Everton.

There were reports that Maguire had picked up a minor foot injury but he did play the full 90 minutes for England against Iceland on Wednesday night.

LB – Alex Telles

The Brazilian has had an eventful week or so. He initially tested positive for the virus before then returning a negative test.

Telles was allowed to start on the bench when Brazil faced Uruguay on Tuesday so he will almost certainly be available for selection for the West Brom clash.

CM – Scott McTominay

The Scottish international will return from the international break on a high after qualifying for the European Championships with his country.

McTominay has actually been playing in defence whilst away with Scotland so he’ll need to adjust to a midfield role once more when he lines up to face the Baggies.

CM – Fred

Not called up by Brazil, the 27-year-old should be one of the freshest players in United’s squad so you would expect a good display from him this weekend.

Fred’s inconsistency is still a major concern, though, but hopefully, the midfielder will put a decent sequence of performances together now he is playing regularly.

AM – Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese international is undoubtedly the first name on the team sheet with his displays for both club and country in recent weeks demonstrating he is in top form.

United will need Fernandes’s ability to unlock a packed defence on Saturday with West Brom likely to sit back and play on the counter-attack.

RW – Mason Greenwood

Greenwood missed the Everton game with illness, whilst Solskjaer asked England manager Gareth Southgate not to pick the 19-year-old for the internationals this week.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the forward’s lifestyle recently and it will be hoped he can shut his critics up with his performances on the pitch.

CF – Anthony Martial

The striker sat out France’s 4-2 win over Sweden on Tuesday with a reported back problem so the 24-year-old is not guaranteed to start this weekend.

Edinson Cavani could take Martial’s place, although the amount of positive virus test’s in Uruguay’s squad may suggest that Martial may be more likely to play if his teammate has to self-isolate on his return from international duty.

LW – Marcus Rashford

Solskjaer is sweating over the 23-year-old’s fitness after the forward sat out England’s international matches due to a shoulder problem he picked up against Everton.

However, reports suggest that Rashford is winning his fitness battle ahead of the West Brom game.
