Sweden star flattered by Manchester United interest

Sweden international Andreas Granqvist says he is flattered by rumours that Manchester United are interested in signing him on-loan.

The 33-year-old Helsingborgs defender starred at the World Cup, scoring two goals as Sweden reached the quarterfinals, where they were eventually knocked out by England.

And according to reports in Sweden, his performances caught the eye of United boss Jose Mourinho, who is now lining up a January move for the veteran centre-half.

Mourinho is desperate for defensive reinforcements after an incredibly poor start to the season, and is understood to have eyed Granqvist as the man who can come in and help sure up his back four.

And the Swede says he is honoured to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Asked about the recent speculation, Granqvist told FotbollDireckt: “I know that there is a lot of interest for me.

“United is incredibly flattering but I have not heard anything concrete yet.”

Granqvist’s only previous experience in England was a two-year spell with Wigan Athletic back in 2007/08, where he made just appearances.
