“Sums Up His Career At Man Utd” Keane Doesn’t Hold Back In Criticising United Star

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was left unimpressed with Anthony Martial’s contribution in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool yesterday evening.

In the absence of Marcus Rashford, the onus was on the Frenchman to deliver the goods in front of goal but when his opportunity arrived just before the hour mark, he blasted over Alisson’s goal. Keane thinks the miss typifies Martial’s time since he arrived at Old Trafford:

“Martial has come to Man Utd and the big strikers score in the big moments, but his miss [in the second half] sums up his career at Man Utd. Excellent build-up play, but you have to hit the target. No excuses. The big strikers who are remembered by the supporters hit the target and the back of the net, and that’s why that guy [Martial] is not quite good enough for Man Utd. That moment summed him up.”

It is slightly harsh on Martial considering the 24-year-old made a number of runs behind Liverpool’s defence that were not picked out by a teammate.

Still, Keane does have a valid point. If the forward had put the chance away, it would have put a completely different complexion on proceedings, drawing United level at a crucial stage of the match.

Instead, Martial failed to capitalise on one of the few clear cut chances the Red Devils created on the night. With a strike rate of one goal in every three games for the club, perhaps we should not be surprised.
