Speculation suggests Aurier is Man United bound but he’s a big risk

Manchester United have been on a major recruitment drive this summer to bring Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho isn’t done yet though and it seems that a reunion with Nemanja Matic is on the cards and further signings could follow.

The Red Devils have been linked with more attacking additions, with Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic standing as the prime-target, but new reports have suggested that Mourinho is keen on securing Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain.

Reports cited by The Daily Mirror claim Ivorian full-back Aurier has agreed personal terms with Manchester United ahead of a transfer from the French capital, after Unai Emery decided he was surplus to requirements ahead of the new season.

Whilst the stats may excite Premier League fans as Aurier boasts 19 assists over the past five seasons in France, a Ligue 1 record, but the 24-year-old has a shaky reputation off the field and that could prove problematic for Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss isn’t renowned for getting on well with troublesome players and Manchester United may find that Aurier becomes another one of those highly-rated players who fails to cut the grade at Old Trafford, joining the likes of Memphis Depay on the Manchester United scrapyard.

On the flip-side, there is a chance for Aurier to get his career back-on-track at Manchester United as the Red Devils are in need of a more natural choice on the right-side, despite the exceptional form of Antonio Valencia last season.

In truth the best course of action for all parties could well be a loan deal, giving Paris Saint-Germain the chance to offload Aurier, giving the player a chance to redeem himself and giving Manchester United a right-back that could be a star- without the risk of things failing.

Back in 2014 it was rumoured that Arsenal were trying to sign Serge Aurier when they instead went on to acquire Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle. Aurier opted to join PSG on loan for the 2014-15 seasonbefore making it a permanent move from Toulouse a season later.

Manchester United’s tight-knitted squad can’t really afford to have the disruption of a troublesome player and the next move from Jose Mourinho needs to make his next move very, very carefully. There’s a lot of risks involved in this sort of transfer and he needs to make a decision based on the overall impact it will have on the team, including what sort of atmosphere it could create in the dressing room.
