‘Sounds Like Ole Is Gonna Drop Him’ ‘Interesting’ Fans Respond As Solskjaer Speaks Out On United Star’s Calamitous Performance

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not pulling any punches after goalkeeper David De Gea’s horror show against Chelsea last night.

The Spaniard should have saved Mason Mount’s speculative long-range shot which put the Blues 2-0 up, while he could also have saved Olivier Giroud’s opener. Solskjaer said the shot-stopper cannot live off past glories:

“Obviously, everyone has to perform and everyone has a chance every time they perform to stake a claim in the team. David knows he should have saved the second goal but that’s done now, we’ve got to move on, we’ve got to look forward to Wednesday [against West Ham].”

Fans on Twitter have sensed a shift in the United boss’s tone suggesting a change in the goalkeeper department could be on the horizon:

In the short term, Solskjaer could consider dropping De Gea in favour of Sergio Romero. The Argentinian international has not put a foot wrong in cup games and it was a surprise that he was omitted from the starting line up yesterday.

Heading into next season, there will be a big decision to make over Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old has performed consistently well during his time at Sheffield United but it remains to be seen whether De Gea will be replaced by his younger rival.
