Solskjaer Responds As United Are Linked With Signing Three Defenders

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has disputed claims that the club will divert transfer funds to signing a centre-half when the transfer window opens.

Reports in recent days have suggested that the Red Devils are interested in Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake following the Norwegian’s conversation with the player after the 5-2 win over the Cherries at the weekend.

AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli and Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings have also been mentioned as potential targets but Solskjaer says he has more than enough options available to him:

“I’ve got seven centre-backs, so I don’t know where that’s come from. We’re fine.”

This may well be a bit of smoke and mirrors from the United boss. Out of the seven, Chris Smalling is expected to leave for Roma if a deal can be agreed, while Marcos Rojo is keen on staying in Argentina.

There are also question marks over the futures of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, and if all four were to depart this summer, it would mean another centre-half would be needed.
