Solskjaer Gives His Thoughts On Whether United Should Sign Gareth Bale

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t ruled out signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Welshman’s future at the Spanish club has been questioned following the re-appointment of Zinedine Zidane.

Asked about the 29-year-old, Solskjaer said that he wouldn’t comment specifically on Bale, but he suggested that United need to be looking at quality players to improve the squad:

“I can’t really comment on Gareth Bale or specific names because they’re property of other clubs. But we should look for quality players, definitely, and players who could improve us as a team. There’s so many factors you need to think about when you sign players.”

United are one of the few teams in England who could afford Bale. With Chelsea under a transfer ban and City reportedly also in danger of being banned, United, Tottenham or Liverpool would be the Wales international’s only viable destinations if he were to move back to the Premier League.

Spurs reportedly considered offering to loan Bale last summer, but a move was shelved because of the Welshman’s wage demands. United would have no such trouble paying the winger’s salary but whether they would make a move for the player, it remains to be seen.

Their primary summer target is said to be Jadon Sancho, and the signing of the 18-year-old would probably rule out a move for the Real Madrid star.
