Solskjaer Dismisses Neville’s Claim That Contract Impasse Has Affected United Star’s Form

Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that goalkeeper David de Gea is 100% focused on his football, despite claims from TV pundit Gary Neville that his contract situation could be affecting the player’s form.

The Spaniard was at fault for Arsenal’s opening goal yesterday, after conceding from a speculative long-range shot from Granit Xhaka in the first half.

When asked about whether contract talk had been distracting de Gea, Solskjaer said:

“Not at all. David’s really focused and concentrated. He’s too professional to let his mind wander. The best players they know how to focus and he’s been absolutely fantastic.”

The defeat to Arsenal was Solksjaer’s first defeat as United manager in the league. However, things could well have been different if Romelu Lukaku had converted one of the chances he had been afforded.

Referee Jonathan Moss’s decision to give the Gunners a penalty in the second half, after Fred’s challenge on Alexandre Lacazette, was also very soft.

Solksjaer will now be looking ahead to the FA Cup quarter-final at the weekend. His United side will face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening.
