Manchester United decided against signing Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest, according to reports.
Manager Erik ten Hag was said to be keen on recruiting the American international but the failure to find a buyer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka meant that a deal was called off.
Supporters on Twitter are not particularly happy with the decision to pull out of a move for Dest, with many feeling that the club desperately need to strengthen their options on the right flank:
We've know we wanted to shift AWB for 6 months now at least & yet here we are again.
We're stuck with another unsellable player on inflated wages, who shouldnt be playing for Man Utd.
Shambles.#GlazersOut #MUFC— LC (@LuvFB_HateFifa) August 31, 2022
We need a new RB regardless of wether AWB stays or leave. Dalot is unreliable and inconsistent ffs.

#GlazersOut, another transfer window where the manager doesn't get his first choice targets, Spending less than 20million on eriksen and malacia then overpaying for Antony, where's De Jong ? Took too long on Timber. Darwin Nuñes, Dumfries ?#GlazersOut

Need a CB and RB. Jones, Williams, chong , Tuanzebe , awb still unsold really shows the levels of unpreparedness. Utd left everything too late.

It has been reported by reliable sources that United have knocked back approaches from West Ham and Crystal Palace for Wan-Bissaka this summer but the offers were deemed well short of the player’s valuation.
Even so, it has been claimed that Dest was available on loan, with no fee required to secure his signature. Other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, have been linked with the defender, but it looks as though he will seal a surprise move to AC Milan on deadline day.
