Serie A Heavyweights Look To Snap Up United Playmaker On Free Transfer Deal

Juventus are keen on signing Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, according to the Evening Standard.

The Serie A champions have taken a number of high profile players on a free transfer over the past few years. They signed Emre Can from Liverpool on such a deal last summer, while the likes of Sami Khedira and Dani Alves have also made similar moves in the past.

Mata’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but so far the Spaniard hasn’t agreed to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

United have already triggered their option to keep him for a further year in the summer, but they now only have a couple of months to agree a new contract before he is able to speak to foreign clubs like Juve.

Mata has been a bit-part player under manager Jose Mourinho over the last two seasons. There have been times where he has not featured in the matchday squad, but he still made 40 appearances in all competitions last campaign.

The United manager is said to be keen to keep him, not only for his experience on the pitch but also because of the influence he exerts in the dressing room.
