Serie A Defender Deals United A Serious Blow After Declaring He’s Close To Signing New Contract

One of Manchester United’s key centre-back targets Milan Skriniar has revealed he is closing in on signing a new contract with Inter Milan.

The Slovakian, along with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford over the past year.

Skriniar’s current deal expires in 2022 but when asked how negotiations with Inter were progressing he replied:

“How much is missing for the renewal? Very little. I want to continue with Inter, I think my future is here.”

The 24-year-old has been a consistently good performer in Serie A, with his team having the second-best defensive record in the league behind Juventus.

Skriniar has also been linked with the likes of Real Madrid but the defender says he is focused on helping the Nerazzurri qualify for the Champions League this season:

“Champions League? If we win three of the four remaining games, we will be there. We must start with a win against Udinese, which will be an important game for both sides.”

Inter are currently third, four points ahead of Roma in fifth with four games to go so Skriniar and his club will more than likely be playing in next season’s competition.

In contrast, United are in danger of missing out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team three points behind Chelsea in fourth ahead of this afternoon’s matches.
