Schweinsteiger Urged To Stay

Bayern Munich and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer has told Bastian Schweinsteiger to stay at Bayern Munich ahead of reports the midfielder could be joining Manchester United.

Schweinsteiger has just 1 year left on his current deal at Bayern, and it is reported that United are ready to make the World Cup winner theirs, after years of interest in the player.

However, Beckenbauer believes the 30-year-old would be making a mistake if he joined United and admitted the German should think carefully before leaving Munich. The former Bayern Munich defender, who made almost 500 appearances for the club between 1964 and 1977, along with a further 103 for Germany, also feels Schweinsteiger would struggle to adapt to English football as his career draws to a close.

In an interview, the legend had this to say:

“Adapting to a different European league is difficult at his age,”

“He has played with great force and put a lot of pressure on his body for many years. That saps energy. He could end his career in the USA instead.”

“If I was in Schweini’s place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern. Until then, he can still perform at the highest level.”

Franz Beckenbauer obviously doesn’t want to see one of Munich’s finest ever players leave, but with a deal not yet on the cards, and United showing firm interest, it could well be that the central midfielder comes to Old Trafford this summer.

Time will tell!
