Scholes Offers His Opinion On Whether United Should Replace David De Gea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has backed David De Gea to return to his best form after making a number of errors in the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

There has been a debate over whether the Spaniard should make way for Dean Henderson next season but Scholes feels that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should stick by his current number one:

“He’s having a bad time… but without him, Utd wouldn’t have finished in the top 10 the last 6 years… he’ll be back!”

De Gea’s performances have suffered an alarming dip over the past two years. It isn’t simply a blip any more and fans on social media, in particular, have been calling for a change.

As Scholes says, though, the Spanish shot-stopper has consistently been one of the club’s best performers over the past decade and Solskjaer would have to be absolutely sure that the club are replacing him with an upgrade if they do decide to drop him.

Henderson does appear to be the next in line, after a superb couple of seasons on loan at Sheffield United, but playing at Old Trafford comes with a lot more pressure, and there is still question marks over whether he’d be able to handle it.
