Ryan Giggs reacts to Herrera comments

Ryan Giggs says he is surprised about Ander Herrera’s post match comments after United’s 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town, saying the Spaniard may have set a dangerous precedent by speaking out.

Speaking after the game, Herrera said his side lacked the same level of aggression and passion as their opponents: “Everyone has to analyse for himself what happened in the first half. When you play against a team that normally you are better than, you have to match their aggression and passion. We didn’t do that.”

But those comments prompted manager Jose Mourinho to speak out in his post match press conference, and the Portuguese seemed especially annoyed at the midfielder speaking out.

“Herrera is in the interviews saying the attitude and desire was poor, my God. They should all go to the press conference,” said Mourinho.

United legend Ryan Giggs believes Herrera was wrong to speak out after the game about his teammates in that way, saying you leave criticism like that for the manager to discuss.

“I am a little bit surprised at Ander Herrera’s comments though because you wouldn’t really comment about your team-mates, you leave that to the manager,” he told Sky Sports.

“When you start questioning you team-mates’ work rates, even if they weren’t at it, it can set a dangerous precedent.”
