Rooney Warns Liverpool

Wayne Rooney has spoken ahead of Manchester United’s huge clash with Liverpool, warning the Merseyside club that he is ready to continue his good form and punish them. Rooney is yet to score a Premier League goal so far this season, and has been dismal in the four games he has played. However, on United’s Champions League duty, and during England’s international duty, Rooney has been prolific. This week the 29-year-old became England’s all time top-scorer, overtaking the record set by Sir Bobby Charlton.

Now, Rooney is looking to kick on and help his team overcome their fierce rivals this weekend:

“To achieve what I have, I would be lying if I said it didn’t put a spring in my step and make you want to carry on scoring.” said Rooney.

“I am very happy and grateful, but I go back to Manchester, get back into training and start focusing on Liverpool. Hopefully getting two goals in the last two games will mean I continue scoring.”

“There’s no better game to go into than Liverpool at home after losing our last game [at Swansea]. It is a game we have to win and it’s something I’m looking forward to.”

United defender Chris Smalling, who won the Man of the Match award for England against Switzerland, insists that his team-mate will be “flying” when he returns to Old Trafford. Smalling has been solid so far this season, but it’s United’s attack that has let them down this season. But the defender believes Rooney will be amongst the goals:

“If you come back off a good performance and breaking a record, it can only be good for motivation and confidence and I think we will see a flying Wayne Rooney come Saturday,” Smalling said.

“Scoring in the last two games and his performances have been good – it will only lead to more.”
