Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney does not believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are ready to win the Premier League title this season.

The 34-year-old can see the talent in the Red Devils’ squad but he thinks that the team needs at least another twelve months of development before they can be seriously considered as challengers:

“Man United have a lot of potential in the players they have got but I still think they are a year away. I think Chelsea with the new signings will possibly need a year to get everyone on the same song-sheet. So I do think it is between City and Liverpool.”

At the moment, Rooney is certainly right to point out that there is a lack of experience and quality in certain areas of the pitch, and that’s why the next few weeks are crucial to see whether United can bring in any new signings during the current transfer window.

If they eventually get the Jadon Sancho transfer over the line, it could be a game-changer, while if they also recruit another attacking midfielder and perhaps another defender, the Manchester club may have the strength in depth to become contenders.

As Rooney says, though, this season may be too soon but supporters will be still hoping to see progress being made on the pitch.
