Rooney: Ferguson The Greatest Of All Time

Wayne Rooney has spoken out abut former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, labelling the Scott as the ‘greatest manager of all time’.

Rooney and Ferguson had a well documented strained relationship at United. The couple would often be reported to have fallen out, and spur on rumours of a Rooney exit. Following his last Old Trafford game in 2013, Ferguson insisted Rooney had requested a transfer for the second time in his United career and advised the club to sign Robert Lewandowski, something Rooney later denied and followed up by committing his future to the club.

Ferguson documented his strained relationship in an entire chapter dedicated to Rooney in his autobiography. Sir Alex recalled Rooney as someone who is ‘not the quickest learner’.

“I don’t know if anyone knows how things ended (between us).” Rooney said ahead of England’s home game with Switzerland tonight.

“We had differences (of opinion). That’s normal. Ask Roy (Hodgson), he’s had differences with other players. That’s part of football.”

“I’m not the only person who had differences with Sir Alex Ferguson, but I can still sit here and say he was the greatest manager of all time.”

“I still see Sir Alex quite a bit at games and he travels away to European games with us. It’s not that we don’t like each other. We just had differences. That’s normal.”

Rooney will surpass Sir Bobby Charlton to become England’s all-time top scorer this evening if he scores a goal. It will also be Rooney’s 107th cap.
