Rooney and Giggs at the centre of Ferguson’s rage

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed how both him and Ryan Giggs received the brunt of Sir Alex Ferguson’s rage during their time under the Scottish manager.

Ferguson retired as manager of Manchester United in 2013 after a 26-and-a-half-year spell in charge. His presence as manager brought about 13 Premier League titles, 2 Champions Leagues and and 9 other major trophies. He will forever be remembered as the greatest football manager in history, not only for his success on the pitch, but off the field too.

Ferguson was respected by his own players, opposition players and opposition managers. If not, it usually ended up badly for those who didn’t. His fierce approach to management was known worldwide, and his famous ‘hairdryer’ treatment was a feared part of his game that left players never wanting to disappoint their boss.

Wayne Rooney was known to have had many battles with Ferguson during his time at Old Trafford, and the forward now claims that both himself and Ryan Giggs often got the most of the managers anger angled toward them.

Rooney told talkSPORT: “That happened with me and Giggsy more than anyone.”

“We were the players he had a go at most. But he knew when he had a go at us two, the characters we were meant we would go out and improve.”

However, the United great says he holds no grudges against his old boss, and says he has nothing but praise for the Scot.

“He was the best but he never complicated anything. Nowadays sometimes there is a bit too much information, too much thought going into it. Sometimes all you need is ‘You’re better than them, go and win it’.”

“He had the balance right and his man-management was second to none. He knew the players he could have a go at and those he needed to put his arm round.”
