Ronaldo: Ferguson taught me everything

Ronaldo: Ferguson taught me everything

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out about the influence former boss Sir Alex Ferugson had on his illustrious career.

The Portuguese is arguably the best player in the world, and has been for about the last decade. He left Manchester United back in 2009 to join Real Madrid for a then world-record fee of £80m.

Since his move to Madrid, Ronaldo consistently improved, scored goals and won trophies – making him one of the most decorated stars ever. Now, at the age of 33, Ronaldo has started a new chapter in his career after joining Juventus.

It’s common knowledge that Ronaldo and Ferguson were very close during their time together, with the Portuguese often referring to the Scot as a father figure.

But more recently, the forward has spoken again about his appreciation for the 76-year-old’s guidance, saying he taught him everything while at United.

“Of course, in the beginning of my career he was so important to me because I moved from Sporting to Manchester and I had that Portuguese mentality – too many stepovers, decision-making was not the best,” Ronaldo said.

“So he taught me how to do it. You know, in the Premier League they don’t fall over so easy, they are tough.

“As I’ve said many, many times, he taught me everything. He was like a father to me. He helped me a lot at Manchester United.”
